On August 18, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced the extension of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Ukraine for 18 months: from October 20, 2023 to April 19, 2025.
Ukrainian citizens and permanent residents without Ukrainian citizenship who were in the U.S. as of August 16, 2023, are eligible for TPS.
Ukrainians studying in the U.S. on an F-1 visa may request work authorization and work more hours while studying and reduce their course load while continuing to maintain F-1 Status during the TPS appointment period.
The extension allows approximately 26,000 current beneficiaries to retain TPS through April 19, 2025, if they continue to meet TPS eligibility requirements.
DHS estimates that an additional 166,700 individuals may be eligible for the TPS program.
